EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

Coping with cancer is full of uncertainty and extremely stressful. Redkite supports children, young people and their families by providing professional counselling and social work services from diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond.

COMMUNITY-BASED SUPPORT

Redkite’s support is available even when young people and families move away from the supportive hospital environment. Email and Telephone support provided by qualified Redkite counsellors ensures families can access information, resources and emotional support when they return to their local community. Telegroups enable groups of people at similar stages of the cancer experience to connect over the telephone with others who understand what they are going through.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Caring for a sick child or young person, particularly if they are hospitalised a long way from home, can have a devastating effect on family finances. Redkite is available to help with essential household and living expenses, emergency payments and special needs items such as wigs.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

Time away from school, the effects of cancer and its treatment can have a very disruptive effect on a child or young person’s development. Redkite education grants and scholarships assist them to rebuild confidence, catch up with missed studies and achieve their education aspirations.

MUSIC THERAPY

Using creative and therapeutic processes, Redkite music therapists work in cancer units to help children and young people communicate their feelings and manage the pain and stress of the cancer journey.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT

Redkite provides grants for bereavement counselling to help families who have lost a child to cancer, as well as assists with funeral expenses in times of financial need.

FAMILY SUPPORT AND ACTIVITY DAYS

Redkite’s special ‘Family Fun Days’ are times when the children and their families can get together and enjoy some relief from the enormous pressure they are under.
